This artwork embodies Willamalane Park System’s core values of inclusivity, connection, and community, reflecting their dedication to vibrant parks and recreation. The central image features two young hands tenderly cupped in a heart shape. This symbolizes the protection and nurturing care that Willamalane invests in its community, particularly its young people.
Emerging from within these heart-shaped hands, a strong oak tree rises, its roots firmly planted and branches reaching skyward. This tree represents the growth, health, and holistic well-being fostered by Willamalane’s parks. Like a flourishing park, the oak embodies opportunities for physical and mental development, encouraging confidence, strength, and resilience within the community.
A light bulb radiates a gentle glow at the heart of the tree’s canopy. This symbolizes innovation, new ideas, and the spark of creativity that Willamalane cultivates through its programs and spaces. The filament is formed in the shape of a “W” for “Willamalane”. Subtly woven into the base of the lightbulb are the words "Grow, Play, Belong," visually encapsulating the project's core message and Willamalane's commitment to these principles. Positioning the lightbulb within the tree canopy emphasizes that innovation flourishes when rooted in a healthy, nurturing environment supported by the community's heart.
Finally, encircling the entire image is a delicate string of cutout doll figures. These figures, a universally recognized symbol of people linked together, represent the interconnected and inclusive Willamalane community. Their embrace of the central imagery signifies that the community collectively cherishes, protects, and actively participates in the growth, well-being, and innovative spirit embodied within their parks.
