El Capitan's sheer, 3,000-foot granite face, a magnet for climbers and dreamers, inspired this visual exploration of its immense scale. My own experience climbing the Salathé Route fuels a deep affinity for this Yosemite icon. To convey its breathtaking presence, I employed vertical linework to emphasize its towering height. The dramatic contrast between the cool, shadowed ground and the sun-warmed rock face underscores the almost surreal experience of standing beneath its vastness.
This black-and-white rendering is the preliminary stage of my design, created to establish the linear patterns that guide the final colored illustration..
